Bottle, 330 ml, shared with JFK10000. Pours dark brown with beige head. Malty, dried fruit, wood, caramel, acidic, vinous to vinegarish. Medium bodied. Not that easy to drink. Interesting.

2011 bottle. Pours dark ruby brown with a small brown lacing. Aroma is strong, acidic rotten fruits, dark sour plummy fruits. It’s definitely sour and acetic but a backbone of dark malty fruits. My first sip shocks me with sourness because I haven’t had an acetic sour beer in a while. But once my taste buds get used to it I’m ok. Flavor is again rotting fruit with some black syrup sweetness, dark tart cherry juice. It’s definitely an amped up Belgian Oud bruin but maybe too amped up. I’m giving it a better score bc I haven’t had this type of sour in a while. But I could see myself going as low as 3.4 if I was in a different mood.

Ainakin 2011 versio näyttää olevan 8% vahvuudeltaan, ei 7. Tummanruskea olut vaahtoaa kohtalaisesti, mutta vaahto katoaa pian kokonaan. Tuoksu nahkaisen tamminen, happaman kirsikkainen, hieman suklaata ja vaniljaa. Aika pitkälle kokonaisilme on kuitenkin varsin viinimäinen. Maultaan olut on pääasiassa happaman kirsikkainen. Keskitäyteläinen suutuntuma. Tynnyrikypsytys on eduksi. En tiedä, ehkä aavistuksen menee överiksi kirsikkaisuudessaan omaan makuuni.

2011 bottle from the Struise shop in Brugge. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of slightly sour red berry. Ned + body. Flavor is malt, tart red berry with something musty woody earthy. Dry and tart finish. Red berry all the way.

Wine barrel aged edition of Ypres, bottle at Gollem. Thick, pale greyish beige, lacing head over a very dark burgundy beer. Strong and fascinating aroma of candied cherry, port wine, sherry vinegar and even balsamic vinegar, wet oak, strawberry yoghurt, vanilla tannins, caramel, blackberry, hazelnut, red wine and raisins. Sour, tart flavor, almost sour cherry- and blackberry-like, with a soft, underlying candied fig sweetness, yoghurty lactic acidity persisting till the end and drying the palate, rounded, nutty and full malt backbone, lovely woody dryness and red wine tartness in the end, with a rounded red wine flavor lingering afterwards; hops are only structurally present but not noticeable otherwise, as it should be in a Flemish red. Struise astonished me years ago with their elaborated interpretations of this style (Aardmonnik) and they did exactly the same thing now - this is absolutely lovely, and doubtlessly a beer with great aging potential.
