Reviewed from notes.
Can to lager glass.
Appearance: dark brown close to black with a two and a half fingers of eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some lace.
Aroma: dark bready, earthy tones, yeasty spice, dark toast, coffee roast, sweet ash
Flavor: combines all the prior noted aromas nicely to a sly sweet to earthy tone, but I must admit it is nice that the ash was left out in this department; then a mild finish of the earthy to dark bready vibes
Texture: light to medium bodied, somewhat sessionable, there's some grit here and it's noticeably grinding along my tongue - so not very smooth - noted, well it is what it is I guess
Overall: great aroma and flavor but get that feel smoothed out and I bet this could be a real gem.

On tap at KCBC, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma reveals dry bready malt, with a bit of toasted nuts. Flavour is nice and malty, with bready malt, gentle sweetness, and a touch of caramel. Dry, bready malt finish. Very good.

Super deep and dark brown coloured body with a relatively thick, three centimetre tall rich light brown head that fades pretty quickly and doesn't leave anything at all on the sides or the top after just a few seconds. Aroma of roasted malt, a dash of smoked grain, a light hit of meats and mushrooms and a lighter caramelised sugar and toffee sweetness along with some vanilla, coffee and roasted oats - very nice and quite strong in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong roasty notes dominate here with a great complexity from the malts and the richness here with a light oaty quality, some grains, a dash of caramelised sugars but more of the coffee and chocolate flavours, especially towards the end, all going down pretty easily and without too much pungency, pretty nice and drinkable throughout. Aftertaste shows the roasty notes, a light kick of smoked grain and more earthier malts, but the sweetness, the grainy and the vanilla notes dominate throughout and provide a great, relatively complex character for an easy-drinking beer! Overall, very nice to sample and luckily further off than most beers it seems nowadays, this is a great blend between a smoked beer and a mild - this actually shows more of a mild to me than anything else, a great example of said style! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Bryant Park, 42nd Street), New York on 20-December-2021 for US$3,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 02-June-2022.

Can shared at HL1, 27/07/18, thanks to a kind stranger. Black with a decent tan cap. Nose is dark fruits, toffee, light spice, biscuit crumbs, faint cocoa powder. Taste comprises brown bread, dried fruits, light spice, charr, toffee, hint of brown sugar. Mediumbodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Well rounded offering and solid for the style.

Can at whole foods: pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is roastiness, pretzels, some mild herbiness. Taste is bitter and roasty. Pretty easy to drink. Solid enough.

Can. Pours opaque dark brown with foamy beige head, roasted malt aroma, high carbonation, mildly bitter roasted malt taste, thin body, abrupt finish. Not bad, not very interesting either.
