In honour of our tenth anniversary, McAuslan Vintage Ale has been brewed to continue the centuries-old tradition of strong ales and barley wines. Vintage Ale is rich and malty, with a surprisingly well balanced and clean hop finish provided by classic Goldings hops. The ale is unfiltered and derives its orange hue from wheat malt blended with pale and Munich malts. The malts also provide a hints of caramelized fruit reminiscent of a Christmas pudding.

2007 bottle.
Aroma is slightly hoppy, with some grains in the nose. It actually kinda smells cheap. Flavour is grainy, with a touch of hops, and an odd bitter malty finish. Meh, this isn’t very exciting. Hopefully it gets better with age.

Re-rate. a nice sherry/brandyish aroma mixed in with some caramel matiness. Flavour is full of sweet hops, and some good caramel malts. Finish is quite bitter, hmmmm, this is quite good, the other bottle must have been a bad batch or something, this is a good bitter barley wine. Should be interesting to see what some age does to this, and the hops mellow.

Quarantine Beer #132 sampled from 2009 bottle at home on 05/14/2020. Cloudy copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, ripe fruit, yeast and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of roast malt, caramel, Belgian yeast and earthy hop. The finish is slightly oaky with a dark fruit and yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

2006 vintage @ LCRBM 2006. Beautiful cognacaroma. Earthy hops, alcohol and cognac in the flavor. Long fairly alcoholic aftertaste. Well matured ale. 2007 vintage @ RBESG Grand tasting 2009. Orange color. Liquor-like aroma with tangerine. Sweet flavor with a hint of smoke. Tangerine liquor and malt in the alcoholic flavor. An alcohol burn persisting in the aftertaste. This beer deserved better than this quick tasting. 2009 vintage @ home. Thanks Radiomgb! Amber color. Dried fruit, flowery hops and a hint of perfume in the aroma. Almost full bodied. Sweet, alcoholic, slightly perfumed flavor with dried and tropical fruit (pineapple) and some citric hops. Warming ale. (7 4 7 3 14 = 3.5)

Bottle from Jeremy. Medium Amber, pours kind of flat. Peaty, malty aroma, kind of smoky. Taste also brings some dirty, peaty flavors, mild booziness.

2009 bottle shared by luttonm. Thanks! Twist off cap. Reddish orange pour. No head. Dusty dark fruit aroma. Flavor is dry, dusty, soft dark fruit paired with strange malts. Soft cherry as well. An odd beer for me, but drinks decent. Hmmm. Interesting one here.

Poured from 341mL bottle (2011 vintage). Orangey brown with beige head and a bit of sediment. Sweet caramel malt, plum, fig, a bit of alcohol, mild hops. Light creamy texture, but flavour dissipates a bit on the finish. May have aged it a little too long (2-2.5 years would’ve probably been best).

341ml bottled Feb’2014. Pours a clear amber with a white head. Aroma AND taste are sweet and very rich: prunes, figs, ripe grapes, toffee, caramel. Alcohol is hidden quite well - you can feel it only on the background. Bitter hoppy aftertaste is a real surprise. Very good beer.

341ml bottle. (2015 vintage) Pours a hazy orange with an average, short lived, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, dried fruit, stone fruit, brandy, spice and oak. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, overripe fruit, spice and oak with a dry, bitter, hoppy, alcohol finish that burns slightly. Full body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Pretty good. Probably would have been even better if I had the patience to let this age.
