The first beer we ever made, American Pale Ale gives a fantastic idea of what we stand for at Batch: fresh, independent, unpasturised, unfiltered, natural, balanced. A combination of Vienna and caramel pilsner malt round off a malt bill that leans towards the drier end of the style, softening its body a touch, before big hits of Cascade hops from the whirlpool and fermentor give a complex burst of fresh cut grass, citrus stone fruit and a touch of pine. This is the beer that shows the quality and nuance you can expect from Batch Brewing Co, and it all started with Chris and Andrew in their backyards. We brew for you.

Malt: Pale Ale, Vienna, Carapils, Light Crystal

Hops: Cascade

Yeast: American Ale

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear earthy orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has earthy bread and grass with some light pine underlying. Flavor has bread and earthy citrus with a growing pine presence.

(Can) Pours hazy golden amber with good dense white head. Nice aroma - pine with citrus notes. Medium body with good carbonation. Taste has hops prominent from the freshly piney start to the crisp bitter finish. There’s some light caramel malt in the mix although it’s quite a way down. True to style and very nice.

On tap at Batch, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out floral hops and gentle biscuity malt. Flavour is similar, with lots of floral and citrus hops upfront, backed with just enough biscuity malt. Simple, no nonsense pale that is brewed very well. Nice one.

Schooner @ Vic on the Park. Minimal aroma. Cloudy golden beer with thin head. Medium carbonation. Lightly bitter, easy drinking. Nowhere near as intense as other APA’s but pleasant enough.
