Brekle’s Brown has a coppery brown color and unusual depth of flavor with hints of citrus which makes for richness and complexity without heaviness. The classic, all-malt, single-hop American brown ale.
Trivia: in 1871 brewer Gottlieb Brekle arrived in San Francisco from Germany. He purchased an old beer-and-billiards saloon near Russian Hill and transformed it into the little craft brewery that — twenty-five years later — would be renamed Anchor.

BBE 07/2014 - Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma of sweet syrupy malts, chocolate, hints of coffee and citrusy hops. Taste is malty, chocolatey and syrupy with notes of sweet caramel and faint hints of citrus. Finish is sweet, caramely and malty with some toffee notes. Okay, quite sweet brown ale.

Bottled 355ml. -from Za Popen’t Pivoteka, Ljubljana. Cloudy amber/brown coloured, small to medium sized pale beige head, malty and light touch of caramel in the nose. Sweet malty, dried fruits and caramel with mild notes of spices in the finish. Also some mild hops presence. Better than Humming Ale but not much.

All malt, single hop? It tastes like it. I'm digging it big time...almost made a 5 since I can only rate 1 to 5.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy copper brown with thick and stable off-white head. Intense aroma of malt and caramel with subtle notes of roast. Sweetish, malty flavour with notes of roast, dried fruit, caramel and nuts. Dryish aftertaste. Low carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. A very decent Brown Ale.
