From tap at Beerlover’s Bar in Antwerp during RBBWG. Frothy, thick, beaten-egg like, cobweb-lacing, stable head over a hazy yellow golden beer with slight greenish tinge. Aroma of lemon zest, white bread dough, green banana, lemongrass almost, passion fruit, camomile, something vaguely urine-like, dried orange peel. Fruity onset, vivid but clean with impressions of unripe banana, pear and a dash of pineapple, lots of soft gooseberry sweet-and-sourishness, smooth with minerally side notes, slick and bit soapy mouthfeel. Cereally, slightly bready malt core, continuing gooseberry effects connecting with an aromatically floral and grapefruity finish, resinous hop bitterness, long and drying; less ’juicy’ and malty ending than usual for an APA, this is closer to an IPA if you ask me. Still a great, quenching, aromatic and very high class Kernel, though - but I did not expect anything less from this internationally oriented, highly influential and highly acclaimed English craft brewer.

Bottle from the brewery and drunk at home. Hazy orange gold colour lasting cream head. Lovely fresh hoppy aroma bursting with orange fruits. Lovely orange fruit in the flavour. Really great pale ale. So lovely to have a Kernel pale ale again after missing it for 5 weeks. So much better than anything else in the world of UK beer. Head and shoulders above. Just lovely.
