16 ounce can at The Front Porch in San Francisco, California. Reddish brown pour topped by a rocky tan head. Zesty toasted malt aroma hints at cocoa and cardamom. Flavor has notes of chocolate, brown sugar and oak. Somewhat sweet, but not over”bear”ing. The toasted malt has toffeeish notes. Cascade hops contribute to the spicy finish. Quite tasty.

Dark brown, medium head. Looks nice. Big nutty malts, even a bit of alcohol...definitely a big brown. Soft and sweet, both toasty and nutty, and even then some nice brown sugar sweetness. The general size allows it to sort of throw all the classic brown ale elements at the wall without any real subtlety. So maybe not the most elegant brew, but pretty enjoyable if you're in the mood for something a little over the top.

Bottle - tasting @ Willows. Pours hazy chestnut brown with a small tan head and decent lacing. Aroma is nutty, caramel, toffee. Flavor has some oak, but really malty, nutty. Medium sweet, light bitterness. Medium body. Above average for a brown ale.

Bomber from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours dark brown with a creamy/foamy slight tan head. Aroma is chocolate over a typical brown roast malt. Med body. Flavor is woody chocolate? It is actually astringently oaky. The chocolate is dark, the oak is present, tho not overpowering, the drink is mostly dry, and definitely astringent. Amazing. I don’t usually like brown ales very much, but dry astringent bitter is a winning combo.
