Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

Kicsi, gyorsan eltűnő hab, fekete szín. Csokis, aszalt szilvás-áfonyás illat. Száraz, pörkölt malátás, aszalt gyümölcsös ízek. Közepesen testes, erősen szénsavas, enyhén keserű. Kissé jellegtelen és sok a szénsav.

Draught @ Wishbeer. Dark brown with reddish tint, smallish foamy beige head, very faint mocha aroma, low carbonation, lightly sweet mocha taste with a hint of cherry, somewhat thick body, medium bitter mocha finish. Nicely smooth but more like a milk stout than a porter.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear, dark red brown with a small, creamy, long lasting, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of chocolate malt, roasted malt and caramel. Sweet flavour of chocolate malt, roasted malt and licorice with a bitter coffee finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Beautiful aroma with some chocolate, lots of coffee. Got stale pretty quickly though, and then it was just watery and flat. What a shame!

330 ml bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/15/2014. Pours hazy dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, nuttiness, herbal, floral, light raisin/plum, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, nuttiness, herbal, floral, light raisin/plum, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, nuttiness, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice English porter style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
