Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

Bottle. A- Mild tart cherry, roasty. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, beige head. T- Roasty, leather, cocoa, watery. P- Medium body, slightly thin texture, slightly flat carbonation, weak finish. O- Should start by saying this was 4 years old (3 past the best by date) so it was bound to be a tad less than desirable. Rather weak and a bit dry. Tasted like stale weak coffee water.

Bottle from COSTCO variety 6-pack. Pours dark brown woth light brown foamy head. Nose is soft, has light tartness to it, otherwise roasted and exhibits lots of dark malts. Tastes smooth, not creamy per se but goes easy, has good roast character, nice bitterness and just a touch of fruity tartness coming mainly out in the lingering finish. Dry roast continues even longer. Pretty good example of a classic porter.
