Dark dark, very dark brown coloured body with a luscious light brown head, about three centimetres tall and a very viscous body - crazy. Absolute insane aroma of pure cedar, wood, oak, ash, smoke, cigars, ashtrays, hickory, smoke and way more cedar - that is easily the strongest wood smell i’ve ever had from a drink, let alone a beer. Medium-bodied; Super pungent and bitter kick of pure ash with just as much cedar and wood as in the nose - strong and pungent. Aftertaste shows some earthy malt, licorice, soy sauce, mushrooms, meat, metal, alcohol and much more wood, especially cedar. Overall, a strong beer throughout with almost too much of a meaty flavour, no sweetness, a relative lack of complexity and perhaps, just way too much smoke and ash flavour throughout. Neat to sample and if you are looking for an ashy or wood/cedar flavoured beer, look no further, but as for a beer to drink all the time or to get behind, look elsewhere. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Leuken’s Liqour in Dunedin, Florida on 01-January-2014 for US$9,99 sampled at home in Washington on 18-March-2015.

Bottle @ home, thanks to Homer321 for sending. Pours a deep brown appearance with a fluffy dark brown head. Aroma is saw dust, burnt wood, burnt sugar, caramel, olives, and tomatoes. After the olives, it’s 100% blue cheese. Medium high sweetness. Tons of anise and tannins. Burnt chocolate. Campfire smoke. Not good @ all.

Bomber shared at the 9th Richmond Rare & Unusual Epic Tasting, Richmond, VA, 11/30/14. Pours dark brown with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, wood, smoke, spice, butter. The taste is spice, smoke, peppers, roasted malt. Medium bodied, lingering spice. I guess I liked this better than anyone else there. Also, I personally blame jackl for blaming gunhaver.

Bottle - thanks Homer! Pours dark black with a large creamy brown head that dissipates slowly with good lacing. Aroma is indeed ashy, roasted malts, coffee, burned paper. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, quite ashy, including the acidity that goes with it. Lots of dark burned roasted malts. Finish is rather harshly bitter and acidic. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Points for originality for sure!

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of roasted malts and dark grains with a bit of a earthy smoke note underlying. Flavor is similar with dark grains and backing notes of roast, earthiness and light smoke.

2014 RBWG Grand Tasting. Black body with a thin off-white head. Black roast malt, piney hop aroma. The flavor has bitter hops on the front, burnt roast malts on the back. Spritzy, hoppy.

Bottle - Peat, smoke and char. Jet black with a thin head. Stinky cheese, the really ripe ashy skunky kind. Smokey, peaty, stinky and crazy. Love it.
