An amber-colored filtered beer of high fermentation. The combination of Ambré malt and Caramel malt provides a malty finish. The blend of Belgian and German hop varieties give it a very personal nose and a mouth-watering bitterness. Slightly seasoned at the end of the cooking.

bottle @ bierhuyske pours amber, small white head . smell is sweet, in a strange way taste is too . sweetness is a mixture of caramel ( wich becomes way more intence if it warms up ) , malty, grainy and sweetness. some fruity aspects in it ( apple, peach ? ) no sugary things at all . fairly complex , and good, as long as it doesnt warm up to much ( i dont like caramel )

0.33l bottle shared @ Restaurant Lieve, Amsterdam. Lots of sediments in a dark golden body. it has a quickly sidesticking little white head. On the nose it's quite low and somewhat anonymous. I get some sweetness and a swiff of fruits. Not much more. It's average on the co2 with a light thin oily mouthfeel. Flavors also somewhat blend, hints of Belgian yeast and candied sugar. Ends with a thin but present bitterness. Light metallic in the aftertaste. Forgettable. 27.09.2012

Bottle at Cafe de la Gare. Clear amber pour with a small bubbly white head. Aroma is fruity with citrus and vegetables. Flavour is sweet malts, dark fruits, citrus and vegetables with a dry bitter finish. Body is medium as with carbonation which could do with being softer.

July 2008: The statue this beer is named after was right outside our hotel in Ostend. Fat Matilda lays in a bed of water and is pictured in the label. A small 25cl bottle bought and consumed at the excellent ’De Vlasschaard’ in Stene, Ostend. Amber and bright in the sun, well formed white head, looks nice in its own glass. 50% Poperingse and 50% Hallertaur hops give it the colour. Pleasant hoppy aroma, not over the top, just about right. Lovely hot day, this was just what was required. Fine mix of Belgian goodies, all bundled together to produce a well balanced amber/pale ale. It had all the attributes needed to make me want another (and another).
