American hops and Belgian abbey beer flavors intermingle to create a spicy and assertive beer style all their own. Citrusy character from select hops dominate this assertive Double I.P.A., complimented by a unique Belgian flavor to add complexity and ultimate beer satisfaction. The result is a flavor combination that’s a whirlwind of taste sensations.

Bomber bought @ Bierkompass.de. Pours hazy golden with a small frothy offwhite head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small sticky trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, hoppy and phenolic with sweet bread, apricots, banana bread, dark grapes, dry soil, marzipan, overripe plums, lemon zest, rubber, bay leaves and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, phenolic and hoppy with biscuits, grapefruit juice, dry soil, marzipan, overripe plums, rubber, apricots, glue, alcohol, white sugar and hints of paint. Mouthfeel is slightly round, tiny boozy, very tiny astringent and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with grapefruit rinds, rubber, biscuits, alcohol, glue, overripe tropical fruits and paint. Too many, possibly intentional, chemical off-flavors for me to enjoy it fully.

Small, yellowish head over slighlty hazed orange beer. Again the very grapey, fresh, passionfruit-like hops that Hoppin’ Frog seems to favour, out in force. Always the same as they might be, such feast of aroams never tires. Here it fades quite fast, however, quite volatile. Hot-caramel-spicy-yeast laden for the supposed Belgian touch, which results inevitably in the hops yielding more bitterness, indifferent at that, than aroma. Bit of hamrind, without being smokey. Orange and orangepeel in the finish. Very slick & oily, slightly sticky, medium bodied at least. Certainly not bad, but I’d wish American brewers would stop trying to emulate "Belgian" by using cliches (and wyeastlab XXX), instead of trying to make good beer, which is what they’re best at.

650ml bottle from Bierkompass

Pours orange with a foamy white head. Aroma of fruity hops, hints of yeast, farmyard notes and citrus. Taste is hoppy, fruity and quite yeasty with some malty and spicy notes. Finish is again quite fruity and hoppy. NIce, quite tasty and hoppy Double IPA with hints of Belgian style.

65 cl bottle @ lusikka, no BBE info
Aroma has belgian yeast, some earthy notes and exotic fruits. Flavour is somewhat stale with lots of earthy notes, some urinal cake, soapy citrus, biscuits and vanilla. A bit weird but good still.

16/IX/2012 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: n/a (2012-1044)

Clear golden orange beer, big irregular creamy head, unstable, pretty adhesive, nice lacing. Aroma: lots of citrus, guessing citra hops here, some exotic fruits, pineapple, lemon drops, bit floral, hint of yeast. MF: good lively carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty fruity, pineapple, passion frui, mango, sweet malts, honey, bitter piny hops. Aftertaste: some exotic fruits, pineapple, mango, honey, bitter resin, almost chemical, still fruity though, quite the alcohol burning in the back of the throat, warming and stinging. But where's the Belgian twist in this one???

Hazy golden colour with a white head. Fruit, yeast and some grape in the nose. A fine balanced grape flavour together with a moderate sweet fruitiness. Also light spicy. Well hidden alcohol.
