Imperial Porter using a blend of 7 different malts.
In terms of hops, we keep the IBUs modest at 35 and hopped the beer entirely with First Gold.
And of course, with Lost Abbey & BrewDog both obsessed with barrel ageing, this collaboration just had to be aged in oak.
We settled on some rum casks for the Imperial Porter, making it the first time either of the respective brewers have aged a beer in rum barrels.

Thanks Leighton
A - Very dark brown / amber ale with a finger head that fades fast. Decent lacing.
S - Loads of raisins on the nose with a hint of caramel and vanilla
T - taste is boozy but not as much as I expected with a nice fig / raisin presence. Rum of course comes through adding more sweetness. some "jelly donut" characters with a caramel and raisin finish
M - Medium body, hard to form much carbonation on the mouth swish.
O - I could drink the entire 12oz to myself but I’d prefer not to. Very sweet, needs to mellow with age? or maybe this is just a very sweet beer and should be split with a friend.

Bottle from Zombier, Málaga; batch 176, bottled 05-12-11
The color is very dark, not completely black; medium sized head, reducing quickly into a thin layer. The aroma blends some roasted malt with chocolate, wood, and light firewood; original and therefore appreciated. Good body structure, less round than expected though; quite good flavor of dark caramel, with traces of chocolate, light prunes; the bitterness is correct; the alcohol is quite evident but not disturbing. The barrel aging in rum has added some layers of complexity, and it’s more drinkable than other Imperial Porters at a similar strength.
Very good.
