Our commemorative ale honors Samson the elk. This is an oatmeal stout that is full-bodied with a wonderful roasted flavor and just a touch of sweetness. We use galena and goldings hops.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Total Wine & Liquor in Colorado Springs, CO. Pours a nearly pitch black color with a large tan head and great retention. Lots of spotty lacing. Roasted oats aroma. Charred oats and malts flavor with a touch of very dark chocolate. No bitterness. Heavy enough body. Creamy mouthfeel. Clean and smooth. Very good.

Taster at the brewery. Pours black, with a khaki film. The nose is bittersweet chocolate, black bread, some biscuit, and almonds. Sweet and malty, with a light bitterness. Medium body, with a watery, slick mouthfeel. This is a reasonable stout, but nothing interesting.

Bottled. Near black, beige head. Lemony salmiak aroma. Dryish with medium body and rounded, spritzy mouthfeel. An unpleasant touch of citric acid across caramel and salmiak. Resinous bitter finish. Probably infected.

12 ounce bottle. Drain pour. Black, large foamy head, good retention. Aroma of roasted malt and cherries, a bit of bandaid. The taste is tart cherry juice and a bit of roast. Thin, high carbonation. Clearly infected.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice dark brown close to black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some clingy semi - thick lacing trying to stick to the glass.
The smell was basically roasty with a tad of light chocolate and coffee.
The taste followed the nose.
The palate was slightly roasty and carried itself impressionable over my tongue in a good way making it semi - sessionable.
Overall I say that this was a pretty good beer.

This stout poured a deep black colour without a head at all. Random soapy bubbles, tan in colour. No lacing. Scents include cocoa, light coffee, white paste (glue), cardboard and burnt toast. First sip was almost un-carbonated with flavours of roasted coffee and malt with a very light flavour of cocoa. Finish is roasty with roasted caramel flavours lingering with coffee.

Sampled at the brewery on October 9, 2012Black color, dark brown head. Roasted, burnt taste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Chocolate aftertaste. Sweet, roasted scent.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with no head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, soy sauce, and lighter notes of chocolate. The body is light.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours black with a vague reddish tint and hardly any head at all. Sweet hard roast nose with some dark fruitiness. Medium body, very low carbonation, hard roast. Subdued bitterness. 270411
