Cask. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Light malt, light citrus, and light earthy aroma. Light citrus and light malt flavor. Medium bodied. Light pine, light earth, and light malt lingers with decent hops.

Cask@The Edgar Wallace, London. Dark copper color, small off-white head. Rusty, earthy aroma - not very good. Herbal-grassy flavor. Ok, a bit boring, but probably good to have with food.

Re-rate 10/1/13: Cask at John Baird in London. Clear copper-amber with a bit of off-white foam. Aroma of malt, slightly citric hops, a caramel hint, a fruity hint and a light metallic note. Malty flavor with mild sweetness, a fruity note and a bitter finish, a bit metallic. Flat mouthfeel. Drinkable. 6/3/5/3/11=2.8

(11/25/08) Cask at Heathrow airport in London. Almost clear bronze-amber color with a small white head. Almost rotten vegetable aroma with some yeast and light hoppy notes. Flavor begins sweetish and malty with some bread, toasted notes and a hint of fruit and finishes pleasant and bitter with earthy hops and faint citric notes. Slick mouthfeel, Smells quite bad but tastes nice. 4/3/7/3/14=3.1

Cask @ Wenlock Arms. Clear amber with tiny white head. Sweet fruity aroma with caramel notes. Fairly sweet flavor with notes of apples and caramel. Ends sweet.

[Cask at the Coopers Arms, Reading] I disliked the bottled version of this beer, finding it far too bitter for my palatte, and it was with some trepidation that I ordered a pint on draught. However, as seems to be the case with Adnams, the cask version is a totally different animal to the bottle; a different ABV, and a very different flavour too - one does wonder how they can sell it under the same name. It pours a deep, handsome orange/brown, with a good, lasting, cramy head and - thankfully - little carbonation (I’ve always felt that English bitter is ruined by excessive carbonation). The initial taste has a good bitter hit, but unlike the bottle this is not overpowering - soon some earthy and leafy hop flavours emerge. The bitterness quickly mellows as you drink more of your pint to reveal the familiar, reassuring Adnams maltiness. There’s a surprise in the tail end - woody flavours come through, followed by a smooth, warming, comforting, caramel-and-butter finish that leaves a soft mouthfeel. Overall I rather enjoyed this - it’s far better than the bottled version, with a decent depth of flavour for a low ABV bitter. However, it’s still not up to the other main Adnams brews (ie Broadside and Explorer) in my opinion.

Light berry malt aroma. Amber color with small head. Mild toffee malt flavor with moderate hops finish. Mild carbonation.

Cask at the Seven Stars, London WC2. Copper coloured with a minimal head. Aroma of caramel with a touch of hay. The flavour also had a sweet edge before a moderate bitter finish. Ok.

Copper with a small off-white head. Malty nose, some caramel some apple peel. Dry malt flavour with a bitter finish.

Gravity Dispense cask@The Horseshoe. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is bigtime caramel, wood and some fruity hops. Flavour is hops, woody and some slight grassy notes can also be found. Aftertaste is flowery hops and wooden hints mostly.
