Shaker pint draft at the brewery in Denver, Colorado. The pour is opaque black, with a 1.2 inch tan head. Nice lacing left behind int he glass. The aroma is cherry fruit, general vanilla sweetness, than a nice roast character. The taste is the nose, decent balance between the cherry sweetness (with a mild tartness) and the roast malt. The sweetness gets pretty close to cloying as the beer warms. The palate is medium bodied, soft natural carbonation and the sweet cherry finish. The tartness is a bit more evident in the aftertaste. Decent.

Draught as part of a flight, at the Strange tap room, on October 6, 2012Marked on the board with 5.2% ABV and 46 IBU.Very dark brown to black color, light brown head. Sweet, roasted taste. Light sour aftertaste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Some roasted aftertaste too. Sweet and light roasted scent. Not really for me this one.

On tap at the brewery, sadly this was probably my least favorite of their offerings. Pours with a hazed deep brown with red highlights. Tan head atop. Aromas of cherry, acetaldehyde, sweet, cinnamon, floral, vanilla. Flavors are sticky sweet, juicy, spicy, pie cherry. Grainy and a bit musty. Mild carbonation with a strong lingering sweetness.

[re-rate, originally 3.5 - they have made a second batch of this, attempting to recreate the original mistake batch - they did not succeed - the new batch tastes like straight-up cherry juice, and not very good cherry juice at that - abrasive and hard to drink - difficult to believe that their mistake was much better than a beer they intentionally made] Pint at the brewery - apparently, this brew was made by accident - the brewer intended to make some kind of belgian cherry wheat, but a large amount of the malt they use for their stout got thrown in by accident - however, as Bob Ross would say, "there are not accidents, only happy mistakes" - this one turned out pretty nice - the nose is mostly stout - rich dark malts, some chocolate and roast, a touch of sweet cherry - however, the flavor is mostly tart cherry and some tangy wheat, with only faint stout-ish character in the form of light roast and chocolate - tastes a bit like a tart cherry dunkelweizen at times - even a little sour - nice earthy cherry, despite the fact that it doesn’t use real fruit - it may have been a screw up, but it might be one worth trying to repeat.
