A chestnut, tawny red premium ale. Brewed with roasted malts and English Fuggle hops, to give a smoky, spicy hoppiness on the nose, leading to a molasses, nutty palate with a light fruity hop dryness.

Cask handpump at S Fowler & Co (JDW), Ryde, IOW. Pours a mid brown colour with an off white head. Caramel toffee malt aroma. Medium body. Good level of bitterness in finish. Best of the Isle of Wight beers I sampled during short break on island.

(Cask at Kittys, 20120831) The beer poured brown and clear. Its head was bubbly, small and white. Aroma had malts, toffee and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramell, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A decent but bit harsh beer.

(on tap) Dark mahogany with white head. Aroma of dark toffee and chocolate hints. Medium body, light carbonation. Flavour balances dark toffee with gentle crisp hoppiness with a nice somewhat bitter finish. Overall a nice and rather unusual beer.
