A chestnut, tawny red premium ale. Brewed with roasted malts and English Fuggle hops, to give a smoky, spicy hoppiness on the nose, leading to a molasses, nutty palate with a light fruity hop dryness.

Cask at the Simeon Arms, Ryde, on the IOW Jolly Day 24/08/14. Clear golden amber with a moderate off white head that retains. Nose is earthy, toffee, spice, malty, brown bread. Taste comprises mellow dark fruits, toffee, faint cocoa, bready. Medium bodied, fine carbontation, semi drying close with light bitterings. Adequate.

Cask at the Simeon Arms, Ryde during the IoW Jolly. It pours clear amber-brown with a small white head. The nose is toasted grain, earthy, grassy, caramel and brown bread. The taste is bitter-sweet, wood, earth, grass, caramel and orange with a dry, sweetish finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nice bitter-sweet balance.

Atypical bitter in that it is apparently made with wheat. Thin, off-white, sticky head, warm and pretty bronze colour, clear. Somewhat strange aroma of iron, bitter honey, tomato, parsley, grass and caramel. Dry mineral-like onset, restrained fruitiness, some caramel malts in the background, vaguely sourish hint, bit metallic, finishing in mild grassy hops but also a bit watery. Unusual for its style.

Cask at Counting House JDW, Glasgow. Pours clear dark brown, big bubbles on top. Toffee nose, not much else. Tastes like the 1970s; or an out-of-date can of Stones bitter. Didn’t like it much.

Cask at The Playhouse, Colchester. Poured a clear medium to dark amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is hop liqourice juicy fruit. The flavour is light bitter light sweet with a watery malt toffee hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Rather nice actually and not the hop fest I was expecting.
