Dark black poiur from the tiger. Whitish head. Lots of resiny piney hops, not as much sweetness as some black ipa’s. goood.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best by 5/15/2012. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent lacing on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange, pine, herbal, citrus rind, roasted malt, biscuit, toast, and earthy spiciness. Very nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, pine, orange, herbal, floral, grass, dark roasted malt, char, citrus rind, chocolate, and earthy spiciness. Fair amount of spicy bitterness on the the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, toast, grass, roasted malt, chocolate, char, and earthy spices on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of roasted malt with hop flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed on the finish. Overall this is a really nice and quite robust Black IPA. Nice balance of citrus and piny hop flavors; with a very nice and prominent roasted malt backbone. Really well done, and very enjoyable.

Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 4/1/12
Aroma: The nose has some roasted malts/grains, toast, and some pine/resin hops
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a bubbly beige head and small streaks of lace
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, with some roasted flavors, and a light-plus resin hop bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light, but not watery, with an average carbonation, and a somewhat short duration
Overall Impression: I thought this was a solid Black IPA. It is pretty much on style with the combination of roasted malt and resiny hop flavors. This beer is solidly made and rather drinkable. I liked it.

Draft, 31 Jan 12 @ Sunset Grill and Tap. Black with full tan head decent lace. Nose of Roasted malt, Citrus hops and pine resin. A nice flavor showing roasted malt, with a pine hop bitterness on the finish. Medium body. The bitterness lingers only slightly. Coffee notes show up when real warm. The 100 barrel series has always been pretty solid. Not amazing but still well worth a try, especially on draught.

Bomber from Once Upon a Vine North. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of citrus hops, a bit of herbalness and a mild roastiness. The taste is roasted malts with a tropical, spicy, herbal hop finish. Medium bodied, average carbonation, well-balanced and quite drinkable. Nice beer.

"Acquired this just 2 days after it was released here in New Hampshire at the Co-Op. I could have had it sooner had I driven 20 minutes to Harpoon’s Brewery in Vermont. I really love these 100 Barrel Series beers. It’s shown me a lot of what Harpoon is capable of and I appreciate them for that. Poured into a Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Glass at 48 degrees F A - Solid 5 finger head. Very tan and very thick. The head subsided after 3-4 minutes to 1 finger. The name is right. This is a very black IPA. IT’s dark, zero amber or brown tones at all. It looks great in the glass. S - Wow. Coffee and woodiness. I get a ton of sweet right on the nose but some muskiness of an oak tree. It’s a very earthy beer with a lot of fruit...maybe figs. It’s hard to say. T - It’s a pretty high IBU beer at 67 and that’s spot on when I tasted it. The coffee is less pronounced on my tongue than on the nose and more of the earthiness and pine aspects shine through. They could have gone crazy with the hops but this really is performing well. M - Super carbonation at first swish. It’s a medium to high bodied beer. If the ABV was any higher, this would start turning into mollasses feeling beer. It’s already heavy. O - I’d share this one with a friend. You can get two solid pours from the bottle. It’s heavy but still not an insane ABV at 7%. For $6 a bottle, pick one up if you can find it."
