This is a higher alcohol version of the British Mackeson Stout. Formerly brewed in the United States by Boston Beer Co. at their Cincinnati location (the old Hudepohl brewery). Presently brewed at the Carib Brewery in Trinidad (and St. Kitts).

This is the version that is commonly exported to South East Asia

Like every other hard-worker that you know, you consider Friday to be the best day of the week because at the end of it is a reward for five days of traffic, deadlines and trying to exceed your bosses’ expectations. Besides looking forward to two days without an alarm, an after-work ‘lime’ is when you permit yourself to indulge in something you’ve had a hankering for all week – It’s dark, on the brink of sweetness and one is definitely not enough. With a designated driver on duty, you place your first order for a Mackeson. It’s the perfect warm-up for everything that the rest of the night has to offer. It never disappoints and ensures that you don’t either.

This instantly satisfying, full-bodied milk stout is perfect for a generation that thrives on immediate and long-lasting gratification in their personal, professional and pleasurable pursuits. Its roasted malt aroma is a superb opener for its dark, creamy, semi-sweet goodness that finishes with a hint of a coffee-like flavour.

275ml bottle from Epicurean Supermarket in Antigua on vacation. Pours an opaque black with a small, creamy, long lasting, brown head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate and coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, raisin, brown sugar and lactose with a slightly bitter coffee finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. By far the best Caribbean beer I’ve had on this trip.

Many lagers tried on this West Indies trip, pleased to find a stout to try also. I got this dark bottle at a nice shop in Antigua. What’s the deal on these 275 ml bottles, not even the 330 ml they have in Europe much less the 12 oz servings from the states. I have to rough it with no proper glass to drink from. The smell is a light chocolate. A full drink now, again the light chocolate, bread and an entertaining sweetness at the finish. Flavorful but I prefer the depth of an imperial stout. Not exactly my thing but decent.

From old tasting notes. Blackish brown color with a huge foamy brown head. Sweet roasted malt aroma like molasses. Sweet roasted malt palate, chocolaty and rich. Very lightly carbonated. Scant little hops. Smooth with a decent firm body. Sweet malty finish and aftertaste. Quite good.

Old rating. Pours an oil black with a nice big tan head. Big chocolate aromas with touches of currants, prune and slight coffee on the nose. Tastes of milk chocolate, toasted cacao nibs, malt, dark fruit and slight coffee notes are present. Sweet on the palate. Rich and creamy mouthfeel. Starts out sweet then finishes up dry.
