A belgian-style barleywine? We know, the monks would turn around in the grave. But our Oracle is the perfect union of two historical styles as the belgian quadrupels and the english barleywines. Full in body, this copper strong ale releases aromas of caramel, dark & dried fruits and sweet malts, balanced by noble european hops.

From 33cl bottle. Pours dark amber, almost plum, with beautiful brown reflections and practically no foam. Aroma is rich and mature: cherries under spirit, plum, licorice, in general liquorish. Body is dense, with decent carbonation, some stickiness and just a bit of astringency. Taste is a nice mix of intense sweetness and a good old bitterness. Finish is long and sweet, pleasant.

Dark brown, cloudy. Small beige head. Aroma has dark sugar, malt and notes of dried fruit. Flavour is sweet with yeast, caramel and sugar. Slightly alcoholic. More like a quad than a barley wine.

Bottle. Deep brown with a beige cap. Aroma of dried and stewed fruit - raisins, greengages - toffee, dough. Full bodied, well towards syrupy. Taste is much the same as the aroma with some overt alcohol, mild spices and gentle bitterness creeping up to relieve the sweetness at the end. Were it a bit cleaner it would be a better barleywine but not necessarily a better beer. I liked the balance.

330mL bottle, pours a dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out considerable brown sugar and toffee upfront, with an unmistakable Belgian yeast component. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of toffee, caramel, brown sugar and Belgian yeast. Extremely malty, with absolutely no bitterness. Low carbonation that is fitting. Sweet, but not cloying. Not the most complex barley wine, but it is certainly well-constructed. Very good.

Murky brown with almost no head. Aroma is cherry pips, cherry, nuts, soy sauce. Taste is dark chocolate bittersweetness with lots of phenolic stuff, raisin sweetness. Heavy and full, oily mouthfeel. A little too much of everything.

mahogany colour, medium sized dense beigeish-yellowish head; aroma of burnt sugar, anise, and some dried fruits; taste is the same; not really complex and sophisticated barley wine
