Can, 0.355l. Clear dark brown color with medium soapy light brown head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, pine, mango and flowers. Taste starts with light sweet cereals, caramel, citric acidity and dark fruits, follows by mild roasted malt and chocolate, mouthfeel is mild spicy, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Hoppy porter, happy drinker...

Shared 355cl can (with Simon) on 24th June 2015 in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Black with a tanned topping. Malts rule the brew from start to finish. Chocolate and coffee esters vie for your attention in the nose, these are joined in the flavour by vanilla and a sweetness that smooth’s out the body feel and gives the beer a rich depth taste. A very pleasant brew in deed.

355ml can @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma is chocolate & caramel. Taste is super chocolatey with roasted malts, coffee and hints of liquorice. More chocolatey than most chocolate porters out there. Absolutely delicious.

American porter from a colourful Caldera can. Creamy, lacing, dense but opening, tan head over a hazy chestnut brown beer, very dark but transparent around the edges. The nose shouts ’smoked porter’ in all directions, with impressions of cooked beef, smoked bacon, bitter chocolate, black coffee and even espresso beans, Cuban cigars and pipe tobacco, tea, dried leaves, caramel, roasted pine nuts, candied figs, grapefruit peel and a weird hint of spinach, more obvious from the can than from the glass... Soft and restrainedly sweetish onset, creamy mouthfeel with medium carbo, sourish accent, dried plums and some subtle orange peel freshness, after which a full, deep maltiness follows, smooth, nutty, chocolatey, gradually evolving into more coffeeish roasted bitterness and the expected smokiness though both remain firmly in place without becoming too dominant; finishes with deliciously lingering bitter chocolate and coffee-like dark malts, bittersweet, with a well-proportioned hop bitterishness and the refreshing basic sourishness; alcohol remains well hidden. Very malt-forward porter, less smokey than expected based on the aroma, but equilibrated and ’friendly’; I’d say this is a perfect introduction to the smoked porter style, not too overpowering, firmly malty yet gentle, as any good porter (regardless of substyle) should be. Enjoyed this a lot.

Clear dark brown colour, small frothy light tan head, diminishes slowly. Strong cocoa aroma, roasted malts, some coffee. Taste heavy sweet, medium bitter, chocolate, some vanilla. Medium body, watery to creamy texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste mild bittersweet, roasted malts, lingering dark chocolate, nice.

Can from Taniguchi, served in snifter, black with a Thick beige head that vanished fast. The nose is mostly stone fruits, a bit roasty with some smokey chocolate. Medium bodied with a scratchy raspy mouthfeel. The taste is savoury chocolate, light fruit and sweet semi-bitter chocolate. A tasty brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
