Dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of nice chocolate and roasted malt, with bunches of alcohol. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour up front with a hint of coffee, a lot of chocolate and some other strong notes - perhaps the corn coming through. Aftertaste shows the alcohol at first with a pungent and rather strong roastiness and bitterness (perhaps the cacao) and a lighter refreshing wood flavour at the end - all with great complexity. Overall, a nice and flavourful beer that shows the style well and is very interesting. I sampled this pint on draught at the brewpub in Anchorage, Alaska on 25-June-2011 for US$10 for 12ounces.

Bottle: Poured a deep blackened brown with floating chunks and tan color head. Sweet cocoa and coffee aroma. Taste is sour oak with a sweet cocoa nibs and toffee. Not sure if this is actually past its best buy, but it works for me.

Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Pours a dark brown and beige head. The aroma is roasted malt and chocolate. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet roast and coffee. Easy to drink a good American strong ale from Midnight Sun.

Bottle shared at Woodshop 6. Pours with a tan head and hazed brown body. Very interesting aromas showing huge notes of coffee, smoke, brown sugar, spice, earthy, dirt, chocolate, vanilla and wood. Flavors are earthy, spicy, cocoa. Lightly estery. Smooth, brown sugar. Light bubbles, a bit fruity, chocolate. Very interesting, unique, and tasty.
