Bottle. Dark brown to black body with a short, but lasting tan head. Pleasant aroma of sweet milk chocolate and roasted malts with a hint of coffee. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately bitter and dry. Lasting bitterness and an astringency in the aftertaste. The taste of unsweetened, bitter chocolate is in the forefront and behind that is sugary sweetness. Medium body with a watery texture that’s fairly smooth. The flavors and tastes in this beer seem at odds — at once too sweet with too much lingering, biting bitterness.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting on 12/4/08: This beer is a nearly opaque dark brown color with a thin and foamy light brown head that recedes steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Roasted coffee and malt in the nose plus a bit of chocolate. Medium, dry body with flavors of roasted coffee and malt, plus some hops. The finish is roasted malt with a short sweet chocolate aftertaste. Above average overall.

bottle - Pours black with a one finger head. The roasted malt aroma has some pleasant coffee notes, as does the flavor. The body is a touch thin with light carbonation. There’s some good bitterness in the finish.

Very dark brown. Couldn’t get a head going. Chocolatey, fudgey aroma with a hint of coffee. Light, soft body. Sweet, but with a light coffee accent. Subtle milk chocolate and a hint of nuts. Slight imperfections, but pretty tasty.
