Batch 19 is derived from a recipe found in an old logbook discovered in brewery archives dating back before 1919, when Prohibition banned beer throughout the country. Prohibition was enforced in Colorado in 1916. The pre-Prohibition style lager delivers a bold, hoppy flavor that is surprisingly well balanced.

Clear deep gold body under a tall, long lasting mostly white head. Sweet bisquity malt aroma. Sweet malt profile with enough underlying hop bitterness to balance. Not that bad of a beer actually.

On draft at Oak Tree Tavern at Virginia International Raceway. Malty corn aroma. Sweet with only a hint of hops. Sessionable but unremarkable.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 6/10/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a lot of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of pear, apple, lemon, floral, grass, bready grain, cracker, light pepper, and yeast esters. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and yeast esters; decent strength. Taste of lemon, apple, pear, floral, grass, bread, light pepper, cracker, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, floral, grass, bread, cracker, and earthiness on the finish for a bit. Pleasant flavors with good balance of malt and hop flavors; with no cloying flavors present after the finish. Slight grainy astringency, but not bad. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a good pale lager. Good malt/hop flavor balance; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Bottle (odd shape). with a best before of May 27 2013. Pours with a clear, dark (very dark) golden hue, not quite orange or bronze, but a very burnt yellow, medium sized white head. Aromas are extremely clean. Only a malt presence, bready, biscuity, corn, toast. Nothing else. Nothing offensive at all, as much as ones searches, just a boring, malty medium dark lager. Very, very clean. Medium sweet biscuit, cheap malt, corn, biscuit, low butter. Very clean, but rounded. Honestly, boring, but technically very sound. A bit too sweet for my tastes. Mild bitterness, slightly supportive, but a malty balance. In no way undrinkable. Overall, very tea like and malty sweet, with no hops. Its really not a bad beer, just boring and bland. Its Coors, and it is better than most of their products, but nothing new. They can brew a good beer, and this might be it. It is what it is: a very clean, precise and mediocre lager.

intrigued by Pre-Prohibition part, only later found out it was Coors. Just like eveyone else, i think this one is more of a drinkable beer than any other Coors. Other than that just OK.

Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 2/17/13

Aroma: The nose has some pale malts, a little cereal/bread, and some grassy notes
Appearance: This one pours a dark golden color with a small white head and some streaky lace
Flavor: The flavor is much the same, with some malty lager sweetness and a little clean grassy hop
Palate: The body is fairly light, though not as watery as one might expect, with some lively carbonation
Overall Impression: This one actually exceeded my expectation. Shockingly, Coors but some actual hop in here, not the "triple hops" of a certain company mate's Lite Beer, but actual, noticeable hops! That surprised me, that's for sure. Anyway, it still isn't a great beer by any means, but it also doesn't taste like ice cold nothing like some of their other products. Seriously though, it is kind of sad that this 90+ year old recipe they "found" is more passable then anything they've developed since then...

El Fogon, NY 12oz ($3): Pour is gold, head is white. Aroma is grey with a hint of hops. Taste is grainy, with barely any hops. There are certainly no offensive tastes in this beer, but there are remarkably few good ones in it to make this properly worth drinking. Quite meh. Better than Coors normal fo sho though.

Bottle pour to shaker. Medium copper color with medium head. Slightly bready and slightly sweet . . . a cut above the typical mass produced American lager.
