Batch 19 is derived from a recipe found in an old logbook discovered in brewery archives dating back before 1919, when Prohibition banned beer throughout the country. Prohibition was enforced in Colorado in 1916. The pre-Prohibition style lager delivers a bold, hoppy flavor that is surprisingly well balanced.

Bottle. Corn and barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with large head. Sweet corn and barley malt flavor. Decent body. Not horrible but really a typical average lager.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours orange gold with a creamy white head. Bold bready aroma. Med body. Flavor is bready with some nobel hop flavor. More hop than most American macros, so our predecessors were good at using hop. But it’s not all that hoppy. Worth the try to allegedly connect with a bygone era.

12 oz bottle from a six-pack bought at Fred Meyer in CDA, ID. Pours clear copper with a medium off-white head that collapses in a minute or two, leaving creamy lace. Aroma consists of generic beer, vomit, cotton candy, creamed corn. Taste is mostly sweet with a faintly hoppy bitter finish. Thin body, medium carbonation. I really wanted to like this, I really did. Like that Budweiser Project 12 thing, It’s historically interesting to taste these riffs on these pre-Prohibition recipes. Apart from the vaguely hoppy finish that makes it rise briefly above most mass-produced swill, this was bland and uninspired. I’d like to think that the old-time Coors brewers who brewed this a century ago made this taste better than this, but who knows?

Better than expected. Look is pale lager, thin head. has a stronger appeal and personality from the start. Has many of the raw attributes typically found in ales. Stronger and unrefined compared to most lagers. Good co2. Has an ale smell about it too. Yes, good co2 on the palete fer sure. You would never know this was from coors. Certanly micro in effect. Shouldah brought this to the tasting.

On tap at OTR. Pours a clear copper with a small frothy off white head that quickly diminishes to nothing. The aroma is raisin malt and wood. Medium mouthfeel with a toasted grain and caramel with light bitter finish. A decent premium lager from Coors.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with white head. Nose and taste of corn, toasted grain and lightly sweetened corn. Inoffensive. Lighter body.
