Batch 19 is derived from a recipe found in an old logbook discovered in brewery archives dating back before 1919, when Prohibition banned beer throughout the country. Prohibition was enforced in Colorado in 1916. The pre-Prohibition style lager delivers a bold, hoppy flavor that is surprisingly well balanced.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a slightly cloudy, dark amber with about a half finger of white head. Aroma of wet, grassy hops with some light caramel malt. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Caramel with some grassy and herbal hops. Medium bodied with a slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. If people were not so biased and this were not made by Coors, I’ll bet the rating overall would be a lot higher.

Bottlw. Dark yellow orange pour with lasting foamy head. Faint yeasty aroma, not unpleasant just not enough enough of it. Thin flavour, a little hop, but not bold in the least. Only a little finish. Still, better than most of their products

This beer pours a clear pale amber color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of grain and mild hops. Light body with flavors of grainy malt and grassy hops. The finish is mildly bitter with a short floral hops aftertaste. Slightly below average overall.

tap - Pours yellow-gold and clear with a white head. It has a bland, grainy malt aroma. The flavor is sweet with a touch of hops (that’s what passes for "bold" hops in the macro lager world). It’s light bodied and actually not too terrible. Not that I’d call it good. It’s better than the regular Bud/Miller/Coors.

Tap. Pours clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is medium sweet and grainy. Taste is also medium sweet, grainy with a taste of orange. Watery, but clean finishing and drinkable.

Draft @ Nicky Rottens in San Diego. Pours clear dark golden color with white head. Floral hop aroma with some fruit and malt. Sweet maltiness and fruitiness with some grassy hoppiness. Light to medium body with lively carbonation. Not too bad for what it is. The bartender said it was Batch 19 but didn’t know who brewed it. I was surprised when I found out.

Light copper with thick, frothy lace - fairly sweet nose, with notes of caramel, toasted grains, lightly grassy hops - flavor is a bit sweet, but has a moderate floral and grassy hop bitterness to balance - a bit of a buttery note - malts are kind of rough and quite husky in the finish - bitterness and moderate sweetness linger for far too long in the finish - messy and rough, but with a few redeeming qualities.
