Bottle from local bottle shop. Aroma is strong oak and sweet vanilla, malt, caramel, marzipan, grapes, caramelized fruits, white oak, candy. Flavour is very sweet and a bit boozy. Body is medium. Well brewed and I understand why most like this, but this is way too sweet and heavy on the vanilla and candy for my taste.

75 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Plus Culemborg. Clear brown with an off-white head. Malty aroma with some spices and oak. Sweet taste with a sweet finish. Nice enough but the oak doesn't suit the base beer in my opinion.

Jopen’s standard quadrupel, Ongelovige Thomas, enriched with American oak chips; 75 cl bottle with cork and muselet; many thanks Hinke! Pale greyish off-white, moussy, bit irregular and opening but otherwise retaining head, initially clear mahogany brown robe with copper-red glow, misty further on. Aroma of caramel candy, indeed vanilla-scented oak wood chips, candied cherry, brandy, dried prunes, toffee, brown rum, pecan nut purée, some toast here and there, candi sugar, roses, clove and an aspect of chewing gum. Clean, sweet onset, candied cherry, raisin and fig syrup notes, candi sugariness, softly carbonated; very slick, bit glueish and resinous mouthfeel. Thoroughly caramelly malt core, sweet and rounded with vague toasty bitterish note somewhere; peanutty and toffeeish aspects as well. A touch of tannic woodiness graces the end phase, along with retronasal ‘vanilla’ from the oak chips, some clove-like phenols and a herbal, tea-ish hop bitter note; all this is highlighted by a soothing afterglow of rum-like alcohol. Very sleek and rounded, perhaps a bit much so even for a quadrupel; nevertheless a very solid offering, which likely improves with a year (or more) of cellaring, especially in these 75 cl ‘provision’ bottles.

2022 versie geprobeerd met Roelzie en TomvV. Het is een diep donkerbruin bier met een beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van eiken. De smaak is vol, moutig, fruitig en houtig.

Bottle from Borresteijn, thanks! Deep dark brown color, almost opague. Oak, licorice and maple syrup in the aroma. Sweet, oaky flavor with vanilla, licorice and maple syrup. Roasty notes. Slightly alcoholic. Good beer!
