Morello Cherry & Peruvian Coffee imperial Porter.
After inviting Sam and Antony of Other Half, New York, for a brew day during Hop City it would have been easy to dive straight into planning an IPA, given they're amongst the world leaders in this area. But you'll be hard pushed to find any trace of hops in what we created.
We've taken the best of our first Patrons series with Tom Joy and put together an almighty 10% Imperial Porter. The grist prominently features Chocolate malt, with some Roasted Barley underneath for a hint of toastiness. Four variants of crystal malt contribute toffee, liquorice and plum. Our coffee of choice from North Star Roasters was a Peruvian Nehemias Flores - Big and bold with notes of milk chocolate, sweet cherry and peach. As per previous, we looked to accentuate these flavours which meant Lactose to enhance the flavours of the chocolate malt and 500kg of Morello Cherries in conditioning for three weeks post-fermentation.

Can, 10%. Sweet liquorice aroma. Black colour. Small creamy light brown head. The flavour is sweet to begin with, then very fruity, fairly citric. Later comes some sugar and cream, and finally coffee. Or perhaps not finally, because then comes more fruit. Does not taste of the sweet, fat kind of cherry, but the fruitiness goes well with the porter and coffee. Goes down quite easily, and does not taste 10%.

Can. Pours cloudy nearly black with small tan head. Clear aroma of roast, with notes of yeast and touches of fruit and coffee. Bitter, roasty and hoppy flavour with notes of coffee and sweetish flavour of cherries and chocolate and malty and estery hints. Warming alcohol presence. Coffeelike and fruity aftertaste. Very well-balanced and enjoyable. Good stuff.

33cl Can, thanks Plovmand! Black colour, beige head. Aroma of sweet red fruits, roasted malts, coffee with sugar, caramel. Flavour is sweet, coffee with sugar, sweet cherries, roasted malts, caramel, hint of molasses and liquorice. Medium bodied. Not bad, but too sugary sweet imho.
