Kasteel Hoppy is a blonde speciality beer that fits perfectly into the wave of IPA beers (Indian Pale Ale). Thanks to the addition of herbs and the mildly malty character, the youngest member of the Kasteel range is not a ‘hop bomb’. Kasteel Hoppy is a full-bodied blonde beer predominated by the aromas of hops. However, the bitter taste does not dominate.

Bottled, BB 09 2014, large sample. Clear golden color, medium slight off-white head. Aroma of grainy malt, spicy yeast, bit green apple, slight grassy. Bit sweet taste, cardboard, slight bitter. Hoppy? Wheres the hop? Dry sharpish taste, metallic. Quite horrible as usual from Kasteel.

[10/4/13] Bottle sample at a tasting at chriso’s place. Clear golden with a white head. Skunky aroma with a bit of cardboard and a bit of yeasty fruitiness. Flavor has a bit of fruitiness, a bit of sweetness, yeast, a bit of skunky hops and a bit of bitterness. Rather light-bodied. Quite poor.

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, yeasty, fruity and moderate hoppy - grass. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 121013

Dsg tasting at Chris’s. Very clear golden colour lively white head fleeting. Aroma is stale malt Belgian yeast and spicy hop. Flavour is crisp carbonation dirty rough earthy bitterness. Belgian yeast esters. Lingers dirty hop. Distinctly average.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. With a name like ’Hoppy’ you’d think it’d have a taste to match, but this is fairly tame especially by Belgian standards. Slightly bitter kick to the aftertaste but still.. fairly average.

Bottle from ABC Leuven. Lightly hoppy nose, grassy, soapy, herbal. Not all that impressive really. Rich, bready malts behind them. nice deep golden color, lightly cloudy, with a low but thick lace. Tangy, herbal flavor, light bready malts, some muddied citrus, hay, grass. Don’t know how these hops were used, but I don’t think I like it. Tangy, with a prickly, somewhat peppery hop finish. Prickly more than bitter, but it is relatively bitter as well. Ok, but not really much hop aroma or flavor at all, just way more bitterness than other Kasteel beers, but that isn’t so hard to do. Very dry and light, and too carbonated. Should have used more fragrant hops.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear gold with medium head and lots of carbonation. Aromas of corn syrup and cardboard. Flavors of alcohol, malts, and corn. A Belgian imitation of an American lager -though stronger.
