Kasteel Hoppy is a blonde speciality beer that fits perfectly into the wave of IPA beers (Indian Pale Ale). Thanks to the addition of herbs and the mildly malty character, the youngest member of the Kasteel range is not a ‘hop bomb’. Kasteel Hoppy is a full-bodied blonde beer predominated by the aromas of hops. However, the bitter taste does not dominate.

Draft in In De Wildeman. Pours clear golden with an off white head. Aroma of floral hops, light citrus and grass. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, pale golden colour with a big and blond foamy head. Discreet aroma of grassy hops with delicately grainy malt and hints of citrus. Moderately bitter flavour, medium bodied with a modest carbonation. slick and slightly grainy malt-character with grassy and spicy hops; mildly malty, dry and bitter hoppy, also a bit medicinal finish. Rather unconvincing. 25.VIII.13

Bottle at The Fiddler, Den Haag. Poured a crystal light amber with a thin white had and lots of carbonation. The aroma is weak yeast leading to a medium to strong bitter flavour with plenty of yeast and lots of hoppy bitterness up front in the palate. The finish is somewhat weak. A refreshing beer for sure but I’m not sure what the brewer was trying to achieve.

Decent beer. Tries to be an IPA, but is just a slightly more hoppy blond beer. Satisfieing, but nothing more.

Aroma: strange, reminds me of dry white wine; also noticeable herbs. Pale colour, minimal head, clear. Medium bitterness, lightly sour. I don’t like it much. Bottle.

Draught. Slightly hazy golden colour with a small, dense white head. Fruity aroma with herbal hops, hay, spices, malts are almost drowned in the herbal bitterness. Some oranges and citrus. Taste is bitter. Medium body, lively carbonation. Finishes bitter, dry with lots of herbal hops, some frutiness. Enjoyable, albeit rather unbalanced bitterness.

Medium to good, slightly yellowish head, fed by near-explosive carbonation, on cold-hazed yellow-golden beer. Quite spicy, peppery nose; dry hops, dry grains. Same dry herbal/spicy flavours, nettles, dry hops, dry malt, but little or no maltsweetness. Foccacio with dry herbs - or asafoetida popodum. Spritzy, well, call it fizzy, gristslick, feels not quite medium bodied, probably because of the overcarbonation. Strange... not bad, but weird hops. I prefer New World ones.

Musty, lager aroma. Clear golden body with thin, creamy head. Carbonation rises from center of the bottom of the glass like a tornado. taste is sour and bitter, not in a good way. This should be accentuating the hops, this is just like a pilsener.

330ml bottle. Clear pale golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Grainy, strawy and minimally grassy hop aroma. Taste is dry, fruity with a touch of green apple, strawy, grassy bitter hoppy overtones. Just plain grassy bitter hoppy, no vestige of any hop flavour of interest.
