23 January 2020. At Dok Brewing Company. Cheers to the Teamleader colleagues! Pours cloudy black with a lasting, small, foamy, dark beige head. Aroma of candied date, liqueur-filled pralines, coffee powder, vanilla, black olive, vague green apple, whisky. Taste has sweet dates & plum covered in chocolate with a touch of cream, vague umami olive-like edge, coffee powder bitterness building with a whiff of green apple. Dry, toasty, woody finish, solid earthy hops, lingering dark fruit & chocolate & rather strong whisky-liek alcohol. Medium to full body, oily-sticky texture, soft carbonation. Decent enough 'BA', not too much acetaldehyde for me, but rather on the sweet side!

Whisky barrel aged edition of this imperial stout by Frontaal, draught at Dok Brewing Festival. Pale yellowish beige, membrane-lacing, mousy, opening head on a pitch black beer. Aroma of hot chocolate sauce made with cognac, sweet whisky, caramel, glue, liquorish, coffee liqueur, nail polish remover, wet oak wood, bayleaf. Very sweet, even sticky onset, brown sugariness almost, fig and date, spicy ‘drop’-like touch (liquorish candy) developing more in the finish, very light umami accent, soft carb; very thick and oily, syrupy, caramelly and toffeeish malt body turning bitter-chocolatey quickly, coffee cream-like in the end but avoiding full-fledged roasted bitterness; sticky sweetness lingers, hops remain buried underneath but what does add a lot of wryness, is a significant amount of solventy effects, working together with the booze provided by the whisky. The woody effect is certainly there, but could have been more outspoken for me. Bit too solventy and sweet, in all, this can do with some finetuning especially considering the prestige linked to accomplishing a good barrel aged imperial stout the American way.

Black with dark soapy head. Aroma and flavour have dark roasted malts and lots of wood. Light whisky malt sweetness. Lots of woody dryness. Thick, full bodied.
