For 80 years Red Stripe has embodied the spirit, rhythm and pulse of Jamaica and its people. Eugene Desnoes & Thomas Geddes really started something special in Kingston back in 1918. Barley malt and the finest Yakima hops were combined with lots of island attitude to give Red Stripe its now world famous easy taste. Enjoy the Jamaican easy vibe.

From the bottle. Pours gold with a white head that fizzes away. Aroma of mixed grains, concrete. Taste has a very mild bitterness. A bit dusty and unappetizing. Medium body. Overall I‘d say worse than the average pale lager country tick.

Pours extremely pale with a very thick, fluffy white head. Weak aroma typical of a pale lager. Tastes like malt with a slight honey taste to it. Palate is almost nonexistent, contains only the aforementioned elements. Drinkable, not a great beer.

33cl bottle from Cora Woluwe-Saint-Lambert in Brussels, yes “Born in Jamaica” but brewer and bottled by Heineken Netherland under licence from Desnoes and Geddes, well in the USA they had similar “problem” and solved it: “In 2015, the company was sued in the US for misleading consumers over the origin of its beers, which used deceptive phrasing like Jamaican Style Lager and Taste of Jamaica. However, the case was dismissed in April 2016 after the court expressed the view that the beer need not be manufactured in Jamaica to be called a Jamaican beer, as the nationality was a modifier and not a statement of origin” and now I can believe it is Jamaican beer and country tick #79. F: thin, white, not long lasting. C: pale gold, clear. A: grainy, caramel, bready, sweet grassy. T: sweet grainy, almost no bitterness, sweet grassy, corny, light to medium body, soft carbonation, nothing really tasty.

Bottle, many thanks anstei, finally Country #100! Clear pale golden color with fizzy white head. Aroma is corny, papery. Taste is paper, corn. Oily mouthfeel with foamy carbonation. Meh, but not terrible.

First really appreciated after a zip-line ride in Jamaica some years back. Absolutely best when drank from the 24 oz bottle. The same obtained from Binny’s in downtown Chicago this time. Mostly brown-bagged so I have to pass on the scent and appearance appraisal. It tastes of barley and water, maybe some rice too. But it has a distinct quality I cannot quite identify, different from any other beer, perhaps lemon rind. It does not make sense, I am unsure. So I just drink it and enjoy. Yeah, mon. 8/8/18

440ml can. Pours clear pale golden with a loose frothy white top. Aroma: grains, cardboard, vaguely floral, hint of grass. Taste: light malts, grainy, hints of citrus, metallic. Light body. Moderate carb. Watery mouthfeel. Lightly dry finish, low bitterness. Not great...
