Batch 2 bottle shared by Brad on 10/8/16. Many thanks!
Dark caramel colored liquid shows high clarity and a moderately high viscosity. Nice burnt umber highlights, if I remember my crayola colors correctly from kindergarten.
Nose is hugely aromatic, as one expects from dessert meads, filling the nostrils with rich caramel and toffee, black pepper and light tobacco. Before it gets too much, raisin, prune and vanilla notes emerge, balancing it somewhat, though it obviously remains on the rich and sugar-heavy side. Low on the booze, for its size, with no harsh notes whatsoever, even taken at room temp. No flaws either.
In the mouth it’s even more stunning. The richness is there, with a soft, velvety, though importantly, not syrupy texture. Tons of caramel and raisin, with more spicebox, dry vanilla and a wonderful acidity that fills the backend of the experience with a great balance. Prunes, creme brulee and light tobacco linger on with soft tannins and a poignant, sweet-acidic finish. Again, low on the booze here and no apparent oakiness. Really impressed by this stuff and I don’t normally like dessert meads.

Draught @ CBC 2015. Pours very deep chestnut brown leaving some nice-looking legs on the glass. Smell is intense, slightly fruity and slightly floral with dark honey, caramel, bochet, raisins, prunes, moist wood, vanilla, dried pine needles and alcohol. Taste is heavy sweet, slightly fruity and slightly floral. Mouthfeel is thick, fat, oily, sticky sweet, boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet with dark honey, bochet, raisins, prunes, dates, moist wood, port wine, chocolate, vanilla, dried pine needles and alcohol. Crazy sweet intense mead. Cool port wine and date characteristics. Love it but wouldn’t be able to muster much of it before being overwhelmed.

Keg at the 4th Copenhagen Beer Celebration, Session 2, 01/05/2015. Rich claret in appearance with moderate spotting and edgework. Nose is tarte fruit, varnish, red berry, cherry skins, wooded notes. Taste comprises sweet berry fruit, sugar, sweet sweet licks. Full bodied, oily feel, sweet warming close. Ok stuff, smelt good, just too sweet for me in the execution.
