Nice deep brown coloured body with a perfectly shaped tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, yeast, spices, nuts and a bit of raisins. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavour with some smoked tones and a little bit of a spicey finish. Aftertaste shows malt (of course), raisins and other pit fruits, spice and a little pumpkin flavour. Overall, a pretty good scotch - not my absolute favorite, but not horrible by any means. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased directly from the brewery last spring, in Easton, PA - drunk on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 27-July-2007.

Bottle thanks to xproudfoot. Red-brown translucent body, thin cream head. Aroma of brown sugar and toast, with alcohol bitterness and hints of dark fruits and berries as it warms. Relatively light body with noticeable alcohol. After a few sips the dark fruits, toast, cereal, and smoked malts grew on me, but were still a bit subdued for my palate. Decent but rather light for a scotch ale.

Dark mahogany color with a medium frothy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, some honey, slight earthiness. Sweet malt flavor, some more slight peat, overall smooth to drink.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear copper color ale with a small off-white foamy head with minimal retention. Aroma of slightly roasted sweet malt with some very subtle peat. Taste is a mix between sweet malt, subtle peat (too subtle for the style IMO) and a watery finish. Body is definitely a bit thin for the style but alcohol was well hidden. Good but well short of being great for the style.
