Deep amber colored pour with a huge thick head that gave off a luscious aroma of citrusy pniey hops that filled the room. Smooth flavor that is hop centered yet in balance with the malt. Nice bitter finish. A very good IPA.

This held up nicely for being a year and a half old (bottled 29 Jan. 2003). Awesome appearance- deep, hazy red-brown with a medium-thick light tan head, very dark for an IPA. Earthy, bitter hiops aroma with light pine and caramel. Caramely, very bready flavor, biscuity and earthy with slightly spicy and piney hops, the hops being nowhere close to overwhelming but instead nicely complementing the malty body. There was a "hollowness" that developed after the initial flavors, perhaps a function of age. Rather subtle, creamy and smooth. Me like.

Not a very hoppy IPA, but if you put that aside, this is a pretty tasty beer - dark copper/red in color, with a dense, off-white head - intense aroma of oak (I imagine myself in a lumberyard when I close my eyes) - flavor, as I stated, is not very hoppy, but this is made up for with a heavy maltiness very uncharacteristic of the style, but quite enjoyable anyway - woodiness from aroma comes back in the finish, and the hops come to the front a bit - this is bottle conditioned, and has a flavor about it that leads me to believe that it will age very well.

Dark amber colour with a very dense tan head--this is the way an IPA should look! Aroma purely of very high a.a. hops--a hop-head's favourite smell! One of the best smelling IPA's i've ever come across, this one has definately been dry-hopped for a while! Medium-bodied; No carbonation in the taste, a strong sweetness initially followed by a subtle hoppiness which gets stronger as it sits in your mouth. It seems that the hops are stale or old, but the ones used for dry-hopping are still great! Overall, I was expecting much more, so I will definately try another bottle and compare it to this. Definately try this beer if you live in the Mid-Atlantic region! I bought this 765 mL bottle from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia and sampled it on 31-August-2003.

A very nice IPA. Aroma was strong of fresh hops: citric, piney/resiny and spicy. Flavor was well-balanced with a full malt presence, deep and dark, with a complex hop profile: mainly spicy and resiny. Finish was near-puckering bitter. Outstanding creamy mouthfeel. Dark amber color, with a large creamy thick head, and heavy lacing. A beer that demands to be drunk at around 55-60 deg F. Bottle was only about a month old (August 2002 vintage dating) when sampled - amazingly fresh.

From a brewery that specializes in excellent German lagers, they sure know how to make an IPA. I don't know for sure what hops they used, but this beer has a whopping nose of fresh Fuggles hops (I just happened to have an unused portion of Fuggles in my fridge, and the aroma is identical). I assume this beer must be almost 1 year old by now, but the hop aroma says nothing but fresh hops. (vintage date: 2000 Cuvee 2 0817) personally - I find it somewhat funny they used the term vintage on the bottle, since thats a vintner's term. The hop flavor is intense and the same as the aroma. Full malty body balances it out, but still a good choice for hophead geeks. It comes in 765mL bottles, and while it is drinkable enough to finish that much alone, it sure leaves you feeling it. whew
