This brown ale is very malt forward with notes of grains, bread and cereal and some light notes of ginger and orange peel.

From old tasting notes. Deep reddish brown color. Foamy tan head. Spicy roasted malt aroma. Rich toasted malt flavor with hints of toffee and cocoa. There is an abundance of hops that come through early and lasts throgh to the finish. Good flavor and body contribute to a tasty dark ale.

Malty from the start. Malt in the smell. From a bottle. Yes malty is the word, very little if any hops. Not much co2. Very little alky impact, just malted milk. Smooth, a little cloying. Not medicianl, just a little cloying again on the finish. Can’t taste much spice, just a malty laid back beer. Same on the finish; laid back malty flat with little alky impact. Normally I like low alky beers but I think this is too much malt..

Bottle. Light soapy aroma.... not a whole lot to smell. Clear amber with a large ivory head, decent lacing. Watery barley malt, and light grassy hops. Light watery body.

Undated bottle purchased recently. Probably a year old, maybe two. Hazy copper pour with a slight off-white head. Aroma is malty — cookie and caramel with notes of fruit and allspice. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter, perhaps because of the age of the bottle. The body is medium with a watery texture, though there is also a slight chalky texture in the finish. Very little carbonation, again perhaps because of its age. Slilghtly tart finish.

Bottled. Hazy brownish amber. Flowery hops and spices (nutmeg & cinnamon?) up front. Clean, hard mouthfeel, medium to light body and average bitterness.

Pours a thin head. Nice orange amber ale with a butterscotch nose and liqueur (ameretto is right kindestcut). Nice warmth of alcool, spices, faint bitterness, but nice body. Enjoyable.

Definately a wierd time to be drinking a Winter seasonal, but it was available, and i've never had it, so I bought it! The colour is a thin darker amber with a slightly off-white head. Smells of malt and sugar arise with some other vegetably smells. The taste is almost completely of malt with some potent hop kick. Definately not what I was expecting from a seemingly great brewery. I guess I'll give them next year to make up on this one, but I was not impressed in the slightest bit with this one. The aftertaste is a bit malty and bittering, but definately not complex. I bought this in a twelve ounce bottle at Dean & Deluca in Washington (Georgetown).
