Yeast: Nottingham
Hops: Pilgrim, East Kent Golding
Malts: Pale, Crystal, Black Patent
ABV: 4.8%
When we opened back in 1991 this was our first beer. We created this recipe while brewing with our mentor Pierre in his friend's garage in Montreal. We wanted to develop a beer that was smooth and easy-drinking, yet still retained an assertive body to set it apart. The result was a beer with nice caramel tones and a balance of the malt and hop profiles. Over time we have refined the ingredients to achieve what we feel is a perfectly balanced session brew.

This ale poured a deep, dark amber colour with a light tan coloured head. Minimal lacing. Scents include molasses, roasted malts and a little wine? First swig was nice. A little thin but nice smooth flavour. Flavours of roasted malts and molasses are most prominent. Finish is nice and toasty with malty goodness lingering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Amber brown body, looks filtered. Foamy, fading beige head. Pleasant caramel, light chocolate aroma. Smooth chocolate amber nut brown beer. Medium bodied, fresh and sessionable. Balanced by a nice crisp hop tone, but the finish is luscious, deep malt. Solid offering.

Enjoyed on tap at Reel Cinema in Bar Harbor, ME while watching the new Star Trek. Appearance dark coffee brown with very thin off white head. Aroma not really of anything, maybe light toffee. Taste is smooth and easy drinking, nice English ale flavor. Overall, enjoyable brew.

It poured a deep copper and left a small beige head. It left just a bit of lacing. The aroma had some faint roasted nuts and light caramel malts. The taste took those smells and made it sweet yet more bitter and dry altogether in the taste part of it. The palate was dry in the finish and aftertaste. Overall, a pretty good beer that I would have again in any season.

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear amber with a small off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a fruity malt and cereal. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet malt with chocolate. Easy to drink a good brown ale from Atlantic.

tap at Geddy’s in Bar Harbor - Pours auburn with an off white head. It smells of toffee accented malt. The flavor is sweet with a definite caramel/toffee taste. It’s light bodied and on the watery side, an okay but too bland brew.

Pour is darker. Smell is a little tart and then sweet. Somewhat leathery at first. Decent CO2. Old ale feel. At the beginning of each sip it hides its alky well but at the end of the slug there is a alky poke thru, a little bittter but no hoplike. Some of that gravel in there. Not real jerky for an ale over 5%. Ok for a dark beer. Some burned wood comes thru at the end.

Pored like a cola with nice small beige head. The aroma is much like the taste; sweet & malty, lightly roasted nuts up front. A squirrel would like the aroma. Very nutty. A bit more dry towards the finish. Very light body, too light. Watery mouthfeel, ok at best.

Taste of nutty malts. Reddish brown pour. A quirky little ale. Slightly different. Rated 10/22/04
