Notes from 2/6/2009 Baby growler tucked away for too long, paired up with in season notes. Geek... must... rate. Filtered iced tea body, a little darker once it settles. Moderately spongy half inch of oatmeal head; Sporadic lace. Lavender, ginger, heather, stale cinnamon, toasty malt. Cardamom I'm really not familiar with, but Wiki says it's a relative of ginger, so I'm not totally loopy. :P Flip top growlers are the best, know that. :) Taste is initially a shadowy representation of what I smelled, but no where near as potent. Heather(or something like it)comes up first, a little ginger, white sugar, then a flush of base malt running through till the finish. Carbonation is on the lower end of average, but there doesn't seem to be any oxidation that I can detect(spices +2). Malt on the finish makes it slightly slightly dry if anything. It's gone. It's gone. It's long gone. Magic Hat makes great beers when they try.

It’s good, but I didn’t notice a big difference from other Magic Hat offerings. Reddish hue. Roasty ale with some floral nose. Rated 8/1/08

Courtesy of CigarCityBrew. Pours amber with off white head. The aroma is all over the place with rich roasty malts, sweet malts, licorice, flower pedals, nutmeg, cherries and picnic basket. Wow, lots going on. The taste starts rich sweet and roasty with mild berry fruitiness, some rounded off tartness, mild earthiness, honey, flower pedals, sweet licorice candy, dark hard candy and ending with mild malt sweetness and grainy maltiness. Everything comes together pretty nicely for me here. Yum.

Bottle. Deep red color with minimal head. Lots of spice in the aroma along with that typical Magic Hat yeast. Big malt taste... grain, toffee, spice, a little earthy. This is a nice one.

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown. Clear amber body with a large creamy tan head. Sweet caramel and fruit aroma. Sweet grainy fruit flavor, light roasted malt and some spicy hints. Certainly odd for an irish red. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

12oz bottle. Deep red-brown color. Clovy sweet aroma. The taste is rich, dry, and spicy. An Irish Red wouldn’t have been my first guess, but i guess it fits that category well enough. Certainly has a spicy amber malt kick to it, almost tangy. Cardamom really comes through. A pretty interesting beer, worth a try.

Deep copper red body, thin buff head. Aroma of brown sugar, grape, and toast, earthy hops and spice. I couldn’t identify the spice but see it is cardamom. The cardamom is the most distinctive characteristic of the otherwise light, bready, cerealy body. I’m not a fan.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a large light brown head. The aroma was vaguely sour and tangy. The flavor was bitter, tangy and sour followed by a light roasty malt element and a hint of bakers chocolate on the tangy finish. Not an Irish ale at all, and not that good either.
