Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Mild dark caramel aromas. Mildly sour, stale dark caramel upfront turning dry in the lasting chalky chocolate finish.

Shaker draft at Llywelyn’s Pub in Overland Park, Kansas. The pour is black brown, with a small light tan head. The aroma is light char, along with a hint of an apple fruit sweetness. The taste is the roast followed by malt sweet and the finish shows some yeast esters. The palate is medium to light bodied, soft carbonation, and a dry flint finish. Nice enough, easy drinking, I am always up for a Shwarzbier,.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of light caramel and chocolate with some faint herbal hops. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Coffee, chocolate and faint sprucy hops. Medium bodied with a somewhat creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a longish finish. Overall, not bad. I could drink this again.

bottle - Pours near black with a tan head. It has a very mild roast malt aroma. The flavor is roasty with maybe some coffee, but this brew is on the watery side and is underwhelming. Drinkable.

Sampled on draft at Olde New York in State College PA this beer poured a black color with a large foamy beige head that lingered and produced some lacing. The aroma was faint dry malts, vanila and malted milk. The flavor was dry, toasy and lightly bitter wtih faint notes of vanilla and cream. The finish was medium length, dry and toasty vanilla. Medium body and fairly creamy. Decent.

On tap. Poured clear dark brown with a light brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was full of bread with some chocolates and dark fruits and a hint of dryness. Flavor was similar with bread and dark grains with dark fruits and chocolate in the finish.
