Bottle shared at John’s tasting. I don’t know what this beer tasted like fresh, but it has aged amazingly well for a "hoppy tripel" or "double IPA" or whatever style it is. Pours amber brown with white head. Nose of citrus, toffee, caramel malt, honey and light brown sugar. Taste is toffee, caramel malt, honey and spicy hops. Taste starts with the honey and morphs into the other flavors. Still a decent hop presence for a three plus year old brew. Reminds me of a lightish barley wine.

Big thanks to Quake1028 for bringing this puppy to the tasting. Pours hazy orange-copper with thin off white head. The aroma has a nice combination of pine hops mixed with sweet malts, sweet orange juice and cherries. I get a faint Belgian yeastiness too. The taste has nothing but up side with pine hop bitterness mixed with sweet chewy malts. The pine seems to bleed into grassy hop bitterness to midway and into the finish. Wow, this beer is really hop heavy with sticky malts sweetness for some semblance of balance. Nice IIPA.

750 ml bottle from Beastiefan2k, enjoyed at the csbosox tasting on 3/7/08. Bottle #135, released April 2007. Pour is hazy golden orange - yellow. Aroma of floral hops, some earthiness behind. The flowery bouquet is really soft, and very nice. Taste is big on the floral hops initially, though falls apart a bit in the middle. Finish is actually really thin - makes it drinkable, but takes away a lot of the initial complexity. Thanks for giving me this one Eugene.

This has a great citrus hop aroma. Intense flavor, more citrus, hops and sweet malt. Dark brown appearance. All of the aromas and flavors are powerful, and the quality of the beer is clear. This is in the style of Houblon.

Hoppy tripel… I don’t think so. Slightly sweeter DIPA, ohhh yes! Pours with no head but a thick, dark orange color and absolutely no clarity, barely even any light coming through it. Aroma of bitter, young, tropical fruits that just have not ripened yet; thick and perfume-y. Nothing about the aroma says Belgian but it is sweet and hoppy, just like the taste. Taste is cloying sweet, over the top sweet hops, with an astringent bitter hop finish topped of with a decent serving of alcohol. Hard to drink, it’s a sweet, strong, alchy, hop-bomb. Finishes with a bitter-skins aftertaste. Medium body and slightly subdued carbonation with a syrupy mouthfeel. Summary: think Double SImcoe but thicker, bigger, more alcohol, and extremely cloying, ehh. 750ml bottle #1690 (out of how many..?), released April 07 (except I could not find it anywhere until July); Rodenbach Grand Cru smaller tulip glass
