Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Softish palate, semi dry. Nice balance of dark chocolate and very tangy, almost sour, bourbon. A little wood. Semi dry finish. Mild minerals. Quite a simple beer but nicely joined up and effortlessly drinkable.

sampled at the RBSG 2010 - Near black pour, certainly smells of chocolate overlaying the roast malt. The flavor is sweet and full of chocolate with malt and whatever bourbon that’s there is very subdued. Hops presence is minimal in this tasty, medium to full bodied brew.

On tap at the brewery. Poured black with a dark brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was full of roast and dark grains with some toffee, caramel and semi sweet chocolate as well as a bourbon backing. Bourbon was much less present on the tongue. The rest of the flavor was sweeter dark grains with some roast and toffee.

Big thanks to markwise for spreading around this sweet Chocolate Love. Pours very dark with tan head and spotty lacing. The aroma is knock you over yum with a battering ram of chocolate, dark roasted malts, black strap molasses, toffee, wood and then lesser amounts of burnt wood, caramel and then more chocolate. Goodness. The taste is smooth silky chocolate, ribbons of velvety melted dark chocolate and then rich molasses, some black strap molasses and highly roasted malts. By midway mild notes of caramel and toffee are able to well up enough to be heard amidst the roasty chocolaty goodness. I’ll take more Sweet Chocolate Love any day!

Sample at Jackie O’s as part of Ohio Brew Week. This beer pours a dark brown color with a thin khaki head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Somewhat boozy aroma with sweet chocolate and malt notes. Full-bodied and smooth with flavors of milk chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and malt. The finish is sweet and malty with a chocolate aftertaste and light alcohol burn. Good beer overall.
