Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

16 oz can. Aroma has notes of coffee, dark bread, coconut, cigar ash, pouch tobacco. Pours like used motor oil with a one finger dark tan head with excellent retention. Taste is balanced—moderately sweet with plenty of bitterness as counterpoint. Very roasty. Packed with flavor—coffee, dark bread, dark chocolate, dried fruit.

LCI. Thanks to the Kidd, well-cellared 11yo version of this. Not dead yet (suppose it’s been more than 3 days). Old-school. Boozy roast coffee, some dried fruit without too much sweetness.

A dense, frothy pure tan head with solid lacing on a dead black body. Nose is a bit ominous - pungent, fresh ground coffee, slightly sweet chocolate, malt, and some hop bitterness. Massive, nasty, smooth, fresh and earthy, all at the same time. The initial tastes leads with molasses and burnt butter, followed by fresh ground roasted coffee and unsweetened chocolate. Dark berries with a hint of sour emerge as the taste progresses. I'm getting ripe plums in the background. A thick dry ashiness, reminiscent of the Mikkeller George, reels in the more opulent tastes. Beautiful.

Rating a canned version. Thick oily pour. Rich nose. Lots of milk chocolate. Tastes like cake. Just great really. The original idea the series has got it going on.

Bottle at home. Aroma is roasted malt, pretty strong liquorice, some booze, caramel, piny hops, dark fruits, chocolate cake. Flavour is rather sweet and slightly bitter. Body is full. Very strong and big. Enjoyable, but not top tier for me because of the booze and heavy liquorice.
