We started with the same grain bill as Scratch #12 (IPA) and substituted 25% rye for the base malt giving Scratch #18 a creamy mouth feel and a full-bodied taste.
Mount Hood and Chinook hops are combined here for flavoring and aroma, and Warrior hops are used for overall bitterness.
The rye plays off the Mount Hood hops, with both ingredients releasing an herbal, spicy flavor. Cheers.

Scratch 18-2009 thanks to JP174. Pours with a small, barely off-white head. Hazed golden to orange body below. Aroma isn’t to hoppy, slightly herbal and orange citrusy, but mainly malty with dry pear, and dough. Orange blossoms. Taste has some hoppy and orangy bitterness. Slightly spicy and doughy malt bill. Good stuff. Medium carbonation. Not as hoppy as I would have hoped, but makes for a good, strong pale ale.

Bottle. Pours a light orange with lots of carbonation, a big and dense head and wonderfully hoppy aromas. These aren’t your brusque and aggressive hops, but rather a fruit basket of citrus and floral hops. There is just a touch of something a little odd in the nose, however. I’m wondering if it is from the rye. Flavor is a shaper hops... pine and citrus with just the right amount of malt to balance it out. This is an odd experience since the hops in the nose don’t seem to match the hops that hit the palate, but it is still very nice.
