Notes from 1/6/2009. Poured into a standard Pleasantville pint glass. A dark ebony in color, not the richest stout I've seen. A even head consisting of a mellow blend of tan & gray. Gooey lace. Aroma of coffee creamer, burnt nuts, earth, & considerably easy on the coffee. Something a little spicy & zesty like... clove? Intensity is on the reserved side. Taste is of charcoal, resiny hops on top of the expected bitterness from the roast. Oats. A little leathery maybe. A quick, almost tart edge of sweetness in the middle. Resin & charred remnants on the finish. Feel is a little slippery on the tongue, but not before applying a hearty amount of carbonation. An extremely light body. Lacking a touch of dryness that keeps it from being constantly at your lips. On the milder side of coffee beers, & no where near the intensity of big & ugly espresso beers like my personal arch-nemesis Hitachino. ...and that's why I like it. :)

On tap. Pours with a black body with a large tan head. Aromas are of espresso, brown sugar, roast and nutty some chocolate. Mostly all malt aromas, medium coffee, clean otherwise. Flavors are of vanilla, esters, floral, dark chocolate. Espresso character isn’t extremely strong, but it is a rich coffee flavor. Medium bubbles, thinner bodied, dry.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Poured near black with a brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges and laced slightly. Aroma was a nice combination of roasted malts, dark grains and espresso beans. Flavor was similarly balanced with roasted malts and dark grains starting and joined by a nice espresso note.

Picked up a growler at the brewery. Pours black with thin head. Smells of coffee and slight smokiness. tastes like espresso and pretty light bodied for a Stout. Very drinkable i am enjoying and am very hungover

Draught at Barcade, New York
Black color. It has the expected aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Medium body, strong roasted malt flavor, and the same gives also some sourness. Strong bitterness. Not my kind.

32oz flip top filled at New Beer consumed very soon after. Pours is thick ass back with a light brown head. Aroma is coffee (not surprising) but nothing exciting. I am not a coffee fan but this seems like cheapo coffee as well. Taste is similar with a lot of mineral aspects. Its doable but a cop out brew for this brewery.

Growler courtesy dchmela. Smells like iced coffee for sure, with hints of chocolate and vanilla. A touch of spiciness amid the coffee/chocolate flavors. Body tends towards thin.

Growler from Big Z’s - pours a very dark brown, with soapy lace - strong, roasty espresso aroma, tempered by a lactose sweetness - the same can be said of the flavor - it has a potent, tasty espresso flavor, without the strong bitterness associated with coffee - their is just enough sweetness to keep it at bay, and let the complex notes of the coffee bean really shine through - some roasted malt accentuates this - the (relatively) light body makes this more like a porter, but you can’t split hairs with a beer this tasty - I love coffee, and coffee stouts, and this one does not disappoint.
