Pours a nice shade of amber gold. Transparent, no haze apparent. Big off-white head. Good lacing and retention. Nice looking beer. Absolutely reeks of diacetyl. Probably the most that I’ve ever smelled in a beer. Every time that I move the glass, it smells like someone squirted some movie theater butter flavoring. I don’t mean to be harsh, but the aroma dominates the beer. There’s some hops, but it’s hard to identify the notes underneath the butter. My guess would be grapefruit, grass and herbal spice. Unfortunately, they’re way in the background. There’s also a little booze, oak and some vanilla. Rough. The taste is sweet and buttery with a blandly bitter, buttery hop finish. It’s slightly better than the aroma but still quite bad. There’s some biscuity malt and a light tannic note. A little more vanilla and oak. Even when I try to put the aroma completely out of my mind, it’s still too sweet, lacks hop delicacy and tastes like artificial butter. Not much to like. Feel is fine, but it’s a bit hop harsh and boozy in the finish. It does get a little watery in the middle, and there’s a touch of hop slickness. Also, the diacetyl makes my palate feel funny as I drink. Not sure what that’s about. Probably the worst DIPA that I’ve ever tried.

Bottle. Pours with a hazed bronze hued body with a medium sized off-white head with some lace. Aroma... Probably the most diacetyl that I have smelled in a commercially produced beer in the last 9 months. Butterscotch, vanilla pudding, maple, and butter...yeah, just as appealing as it sounds in your 9% IPA. Flavors confirm that this will be a drain pour. Butter and Aunt Jemimah with citrus zest and more fake maple syrup. Sickly levels of diacetyl. Lively carbonation and slightly oily. 20 of the 22oz Poured down the drain. I honestly hope this is a packaging issue and they sort it out ASAP. More than willing to re-rate, but this was foul!

On draft at Tap 25 in Livermore and enjoyed in the company of Livermore spokesman, ratebeer’s own, joeneugs. It pours clear copper with a tan head and sheet lacing. The aroma offers up some caramel malts and a bit of butterscotch rolling quickly into pine and citrus hop notes. The taste is similar as full firm citrus and pine hop flavor mix with equal levels of bitter resiny hops as well as caramel to butterscotch sweetened maltiness. So the malts seem almost diacetyl like blending with resiny hop bitterness.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear copper with a slight off-white head. Aroma is spicy/floral. Full bodied. Flavor is very floral/spice/citrus - definitely heading towards grapefruit. I’m also getting some butterscotch, so I think there’s diacetyl. Even with all the hop it’s a disturbing thing. There’s some wood astringency - probably oak. It is definitely NW bitter. Barring the oddity flavor this is one heck of a beer.
