Pours black with moderate sized big bubbled tanned head Aroma is sweet, roast, big coffee note, chocolate Taste is roast, ash, chocolate, some coffee, quite bitter with a moderate sweetness which doesn't quite balance it. Body is light to medium so a touch light for a +5% stout. Average.

On tap at Begyle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma has soft toasted malt, gentle oats, and some earthiness. Flavour is dry, with dusty cocoa, bitterness, and earthiness. This is all washed out, dusty and gritty. Ugh, for a mainstay, this is all over the place. Not good at all.

355ml can - Pours almost black with an average sized frothy tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, coffee and a little chocolate. A moderately sweet roasty taste, roasted malts, caramel, burnt brown sugar and coffee flavours with a roasted bitter finish.

Can from Beer 52. This is another stout that froths all over the place when opened. Huge transient beige head on a dark brown body. Chocolate and oats combine well together in the aroma. These are both still there in the mouth, but roasted malts come to the fore and squeeze them out. Hints of coffee bitterness and liquorice too. Finish is roasted malts, but with a little sweetness. This is a decent stout.

Creamy tan head on a mahogany coloured still body. Malt, berry & bitter aroma. Medium bodied, smooth, creamy & sharp on the back. Malt, metallic, berry, grain & earthy tastes with a hoppy finish. Nice....

[33cl can from the Beer52 Chicago box, ABV 5.4% and brewed at Great South Bay Brewing.] An opaque glossy black pour with a tight coffee coloured head; tarry aroma; smooth and milky in the mouth with an oaty body, and some coffee flavours; then a dry finish with more coffee. Not bad.
