Courtesy of Gilly – Ard, or sometimes it’s just Gillard. Pours perfect deep gold with thin bright white head. The aroma is full with malty sweetness, some candi sugar, a nice bit of alcohol and a hint of floral hops. The taste is sweet with candi sugar, another sweet note that seems like honey and faint maltiness in the background. I’m also getting a trace amount of tartness. It ends with a smooth sweetness and a mild lingering grainy malt note.

Nice hazy golden coloured body with a strong white head. Aroma of honey, malt, yeast, curacao and a bit of light hops. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with sugar, yeast and honey coming out most often. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with a good malt backbone and yeastie flavour. Aftertaste shows some character with some lighter citrus tastes coming through - but not as complex as you might expect. Overall, a good beer, not amazing - but great to try! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 08-May-2008, on 26-May-2008 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Pours bright gold into a Trappist glass. Off-white head quickly recedes to skim surface. Sweet citrus and marshmallow funk. Strong sour chalk upfront with a lasting funk finish.

With a name like euphoria, this better one great tasting beer with similar effects. On tap at the Bocktown in the Robinson shopping district. Pour is like any other ubiquitous pale yellow american clear beer. Head is a white froth with a ring around the inside of the glass. Seems to be some carbonation inside the brew. Aroma is melon fruity sweet and it also has that typical strong ale/barleywine smell that is an indicator that this is high alky. Flavor starts off smooth and mild, possibly even a little watery (not in a bad way). Then, the taste constantly builds to a hotter alky palate that bitterly sticks to the back of your throat. It is intereesting that it starts off so mild then builds. You would never think this brew has an 11% alcohol content, yes it is alky strong in flavor but not that strong. I would guess about 6-8%. This has a surprizingly good carbonation for a strong ale, very enjoyable to feel some tinglyness with it’s impressive personality. When you swirl this in the glass, you can tell it is a little higher viscosity than regular old beer and on the tongue it is smooth also. Finish is almost like a bitter medicine, but not quite as bitter as an IPA or imp stout. The medicinal linger stays for awhile once yer finished drinkin. Overall this is as expected for a strong ale except for that smooth comencing flavor that fools you when you first taste it. On par with Kasteel and Delerium Noel.

Sampled on draft at the State College beer festival this beer poured a pale golden color with a medium sized white head. The body was moderately thick. The aroma is sweet, spicy and yeasty. The flavor was sweet and sugary with a tangy middle and a dry peppery finish. Nice.

A rather thin-bodied belgian strong, allowing the alcohol to come through far too much - light flavor, with mostly light fruit (banana, apple), lemon zest, coriander - just way too thin to sustain the needed complexity for the style, or to hide the alcohol content - go back to the drawing board with this one.
