Bottle to kick off Blipp’s surprise almost 5K/birthday tasting. Pours cloudy gold with white head. Nose and taste of honey, sweet malt, herbs and light hop bite in finish. Lighter medium body.

22 oz. bottle from the Newton IA HyVee. Liquor department manager was kind of pleased to see someone come in just to pick up the local product. Having also had a great German pilsener at Millstream on the way home, I can try to better appreciate its pluses and minuses. Standard pale lager color with a tinge of gold, under a stiff white head. Smell has a bit of adjunct sense to it, which may have come from the honey, and it’s missing the spice bite of noble hops. Taste is a bit of okay. Honey sweetness overruns what should be a drier pils profile and it’s hops. And maybe I’m being kinder to it because I’m a homeboy, but I’ll admit these folks still need to step up their game. Still, a nice light finish makes for a decent summer beer.
