4oz sampler at the Bent River brewpub. Poured a close-to-black color with a small tan head. Aroma was roasted coffee, bitter notes, chocolate notes filled my face. Flavor was a lot like a bitter, black coffee, a roasted, enjoyable brew that gave me a bit of a kick. It may have had a bit more roast than I was expecting, as it reminded me a bit of drinking a cold cup of very dark coffee without any sugar or cream, but this was pretty darn enjoyable.

Growler shared by I believe guyinchicago (thanks!) at the 2010 RBSG Grand Tasting. Poured a near black with a light brown head that lasted. Aroma was full of fresh coffee notes with a bit of sweet dark grains. Flavor had a growing coffee note with underlying dark grains.

Draft, at Bent River. Hey, buddy! That’s pretty much a big ol’ coffee beer alll right. Big aroma of roasted coffee, fortunately not too bitter. Clearly the fact that it’s one of BR’s regular brews has meant they’ve kept working on it. The brewmaster told me he’s had some business types slam three or four pints of this the night before a big presentation, then call back to complain that they couldn’t get to sleep at all. So he makes sure everybody knows that this not a "coffee roast malt" beer; this is a beer with lots of coffee in it! And it’s pretty tasty, too.
